The 3rd MethodsNET Conference is a one-of-a-kind global event where the world’s leading research methods experts (developers and innovators) meet the next generation of users and learners. This is the heartbeat of our community. It’s the primary opportunity for the MethodsNET Communities to gather in person, brainstorm joint initiatives, and launch collaborative global projects.
The Program: A Bottom-Up Approach
Open to all topics, across 6 Community-led tracks
Because methodologies are diverse, our program is inclusive. We welcome proposals on any methods-related topic.
Besides the plenary sessions, the Conference is organized around six Community-led tracks coordinated by the MethodsNET Communities, alongside an open track welcoming proposals beyond these tracks. Within each Community-led track, regular panel sessions as well as other types of sessions will bring together participants who develop or use similar methods, enabling them to share experiences and discuss research challenges and solutions. This format encourages participants to cross disciplinary boundaries and engage with others working on different substantive topics but facing comparable methodological questions.
Each Community-led track will be coordinated by the Co-Convenors of the respective MethodsNET Communities – see below an indicative list of suggested topics per Community. This list is by no means limitative: proposals may also be submitted to the open track, and the Conference remains fully open to the diverse topics and debates that are constantly (re)shaping research methods.

We’ve redesigned the conference experience with 10 diverse session formats.
Each session type is designed to meet specific needs of respective target audiences:
- Regular Panels with papers
- Participatory sessions
- Training sessions, offered by experts/developers (both established and early career)
- Short training sessions
- Demonstration sessions
- Methods labs
- ‘Meet the expert’ speed dating session
- MethodsNET Communities’ networking & brainstorming session
- Book launch sessions (TBC)
- Plenary sessions, including welcome plenary session, opening roundtable, 2 keynote lectures and concluding plenary session
Modes of participation: in-person and remote/hybrid
The In-Person Advantage:
The conference is principally held in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, designed for high-density networking and face-to-face collaboration.
Global Accessibility:
We want to ensure broad, global participation and will arrange for remote/hybrid participation where necessary; see details for the respective session types. The hybrid options will be fine-tuned based on the session and Paper proposals received.
Remote participants will pay a lower Conference registration fee.
